Our solutions serve parents and caregivers, the secret sauce in making a difference, as they prepare their children to succeed in school and life.


LENA is at an exciting point in its history. Over the past couple years, we have matured our suite of solutions built on our unique software and technology platform and have significantly grown our partnerships across the country.  We are now engaging individuals and other funding partners to support initiatives central to that growth. LENA’s solutions, from our parent group model to our professional development model for early childhood educators, are taking hold, and we are projecting substantial expansion over the next three years.  Our goal is to be serving more than 10,000 families a year by 2020.


The Philanthropic Initiatives Manager is a vital new role at LENA, and is responsible for raising both unrestricted and restricted funds for strategic initiatives from major donors and foundations. As this is a new role, there is room for you make it your own while also ensuring we reach our goals.


Key responsibilities:

Philanthropy strategy development and management

  • Work with the President and Director of Business Development to develop and implement a long-term growth strategy for philanthropic giving from individuals and foundations
  • Grow/maintain up-to-date knowledge on key trends & players in the early childhood philanthropic space
  • Plan and implement cultivation approaches / activities to build a pipeline of prospective donors
  • Monitor and report progress against strategy, milestones, and financial targets; review and adapt strategy and tactics as needed

Donor identification, cultivation, and stewardship

  • Research, develop, and implement high-quality cultivation plans and communication records
  • Develop and maintain a tailored stewardship plan to deliver exceptional donor care, ensuring long-term engagement and support
  • Attend external events and network with potential donor audiences, as well as serve as an exemplary spokesperson for LENA’s mission and work


  • Identify and develop partnerships with non-funding sources to support LENA’s mission and work
  • Work with our marketing team to create and implement communications to engage and build support

  • Hold a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate field plus 4 or more years of work experience
